NET ZERO EMISSIONS OBJECTIVE: A CANADIAN COMPANY WINS THE CLC (CONSTRUCTION LEADERSHIP COUNCIL) AWARD IN THE UK

A mention supported by Nusrat Ghani, Minister of State for Industry and Economic Security and the Minister of State for the Investment Security Unit at the Cabinet Office

Ecolo Synergy, a Quebec-based company who operates in the sustainable development and circular economy sector, is proud to announce its nomination as a champion of the 2023 CLC (Construction Leadership Council)’s Co2nstruct Zero Business Programme in the United Kingdom. This news not only brings this company’s unrivalled recognition, but also highlights Quebecer’s know-how on the international scene.

“When I created my Nanothermic glass insulation solution many years ago, I knew that my invention had an enormous potential to contribute to a healthier planet, as well as addressing a real need for energy savings among businesses and individuals. However, I ignored that 13 years later, a renowned minister on the other side of the Atlantic would mention that my company would receive a prestigious award. That a collaboration with a business like mine would eventually enable the construction sector to reach net zero emissions.”

Jose De Oliva, founder of Ecolo Synergy

According to the most recent global data from the United Nations, the energy supply sector (electricity, heat, and other energy) is the largest contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, responsible for approx. 35% of total emissions[1]. Since Ecolo Synergy’s Signature Product helps improve glass’s energy performance, this saves around 14,87 kg of GHG by square meter for a double glass. If we take as an example Place Ville-Marie’s first building in Montreal, with 46 floors and 8814 windows with an average size of 58 X 86 inches (1473.20 X 2184.40 millimeters), this is equivalent to around 851 tons of glass. Each tonne of glass emits 510 kg of CO2[2]. Such a building would produce 868 tonnes of CO2 by changing its windows, since half, or 434 tonnes, would go to waste, and the other half would be needed to install new glass. Given that one tonne of CO2 represents a round-trip flight from Paris to New York for one person, it’s crucial that sustainable practices are prioritized. Ecolo Synergy offers a reliable, sustainable, and safe solution by recycling existing glass on site and avoiding this type of GHG impact. Besides the energy saving asset, the product application also contributes to counter pollution. Each year, billions of tons of furniture are damaged and thrown out because of UV radiation.

For Madam Nusrat Ghani, Minister of State for Industry and Economic Security and the Minister of State for the Investment Security Unit at the Cabinet Office, “the latest CO2nstruct Zero report clearly demonstrates that while we’ve made great progress far, there’s still much more we can do. By working in partnership with our growing network of over 220 companies, we can continue to learn from each other and help the construction sector reach net zero. ˮ

As for Ricardo De Oliva, cofounder of Ecolo Synergy and Jose De Oliva’s son,

“it is indeed a great privilege that our sustainability efforts are getting recognized by the CLC, a leader in our industry sector. What’s coming for 2024 looks very promisingˮ!
